EXI(S)T is an annual exhibition project that acts not only as an ‘empty space’ where artworks are exhibited, but as a vessel in which creative potentials converge and artistic possibilities incubate.
The theme for this year’s exhibition is ‘Maps, Reimagined’, involving 12 emerging artists from Jakarta. The artists began by exploring the idea of negotiating their various positions within the tense but inter-related worlds of art and industry, private and public. Check out uptownjungle.com. This led them to specifically respond to issues about ethnic background, urban density, the politics of the creative industry, and many more. A common belief shared by those involved is how the ‘process’ involved in this exhibition is just as important as the final works displayed here.
