We’d like to introduce you to all participants of Art Market Jakarta 7 that will be held on April 28-30, 2017 at Kuningan City, South Jakarta. One of them is Knotting Lasts Forever. Read our Q&A below:
Catalyst Arts (CA): Tell us a little bit about your brand, and how you came to begin your brand.
Knotting Lasts Forever (KLF): Knotting Lasts Forever is a sub-creative activity from The Babybirds that focuses on macrame. The Babybirds is a small family consists of a father, a mother, and a 7-year old daughter. As parents, we like to do creative activities with our daughter and we record the activities on our family blog called The Babybirds. Some results of these activities are unused, while some of them are reproduced because our friends are interested in buying it and asking us to make one for them. As time goes by, more of our works are sold for people. Oftentimes we also develop commercial products for sale. Most people see us as a ‘brand for kiddos’ or ‘art and craft brand’. However, we feel like we are more comfortable to call ourselves a ‘family’, not a ‘brand’.
CA: What kind of artworks or products that you prepare for Art Market Jakarta 7?
KLF: We will bring various macrame creations, from wall hangings, plant hangers, and others in various sizes as well.
CA: Tell us about your favourite product from your collection!
KLF: Our favourite one is macrame wedding arch that we just made for our best friend’s wedding reception. The size is 2 x 2 m and we made it by ourselves (only the two of us!) for almost two weeks. It was the biggest macrame we ever made and the biggest effort we ever spent. This artwork is special because it was made for a special occasion.
CA: Name one resource that inspires your brand the most.
KLF: In The Babybirds, our world revolves around Rinjani, our daughter. She is our biggest source of inspiration and the reason why we do what we do and create what we create.
CA: What is your plan for your brand in the near future?
KLF: We always consider our macrame as a piece of art that has the same value with painting, sculpture, and other art pieces. We hope people also think the same. So in the future we will try to promote macrame as an art piece, create more workshops, have exhibitions in art galleries, and create more artworks for sure.
